I'm not worried about being hurt. Life has a lot of that.

A man in my life ask me when I was but 14 what my book of rules were. I said; what are you talking about? He said; a man has a book of rules he follows and what are yours? I said; I did not have one. He told me to think about it and we'll talk in a few days. I thought and thought and a few days later he came up to me on the combine out in the wreath field where I was cutting and asks me. Well have you thought about what I said? I said; I did and he asks me what they were. I shut down the equipment and jump down and we walk off having a smoke. I say to him... You know when I'm as old as you I wouldn’t want to forget the rules I made. So the way I figure it,,, If it is a short list I wouldn’t forget it.

He laughs and says well that’s true and what did you come up with? I said one rule and one only one. That way I wouldn’t forget. He asked,,, Then what is it? I said; “don’t do anything you can't talk openly about and be straight up about”. Then I said: “that means I can't lie, cheat, steel, or anything”. Because if I do, then I can't talk about it and I like talking about the things. I do and I also have a conch to boot. He smiled and got in his truck and drove off. A few hours later he came back and brought the afternoon meal for me. Then he said to me; you know son, you're going to be a good man. I'm glad you work with me.... As he walk off he turn and said, you'll be ok.

This is a true story of mine that happen 40 years ago. To this day I love that man for being an inspiring man in my life.
